The holiday season always leads to families adding new devices to their wishlists. Between new phones, tablets, and laptops, the price of gifting brand new devices can add up every year. What many families don’t know is that they may have a new gift in their homes already. 

7 out of 10 families have an unused device in their home, and still many consumers choose to buy brand new devices. Many devices are put away after they “break”, but many common issues with devices can be repaired for a fraction of the cost compared to the price of replacing it. Repairs such as replacing batteries and hard drives, screen repairs, or port cleanings can be done for only $100. This price is small compared to the price of new devices which can be over $1000 in some cases.  If families were to repair their old devices, they could save an average of $330 per year! 

Cost aside, there are many other benefits to repairing old devices. With fewer people buying new devices, there would be less demand for shipping companies which have been backed up. Customers would also be contributing to less electronic waste since their devices are being refurbished rather than tossed in the trash. With all of these benefits, the best choice is clear: repair old devices instead of replacing them  this holiday season.
